Prayer

At different times in our lives we all find the need and desire to pray but sometimes we cannot find the words. That is OK.  God knows the cry of our heart and understands the words that we would love to say but can’t. However sometimes it is helpful to say something out loud, so below are a few prayers that I hope you find helpful.

God promises that he hears and will answer our prayers so if you feel like a novice then please - just give it a go. Feel free to send us a favourite prayer to add to our selection.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.

A prayer for St George's during vacancy

God of mission

Who alone brings growth to your church,
Send your Holy Spirit to help us discern your will
for our visions, plans, and actions.
Give us wisdom and power in our witness.
Help your church here at St. George’s
to deepen in faith, to grow in numbers
and to share your love in our community.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord

Amen

St. George’s Mission Prayer

Loving God, give us a living faith enabling us to make a difference in the world, using the gifts you have given us.
Showing the love and compassion of your Son,
let us build up your Church in this community.
By living as you would have us live.

Forever focused on you, help us to develop and sustain a sacred centre,
Make disciples in Jesus’ name and build a living Christian community.
We pray this in faith, remembering that your Holy Spirit is with us.

Amen

When someone you know has died

Lord of all love,

be with me today in the stillness

and comfort me as I remember my friend.

Be with me as I look back,

remembering all whom I mourn,

and be with me as I look forward

to the journey that lies ahead.

Give me the strength to talk of hope

and the courage to show love.

In Jesus name.

Amen.

When you have been unable to attend a funeral

Dear God,Thank you for ___, for all that they meant to me and to others.

I so wanted to say goodbye and be alongside my friends and family.

Help me to know you are there,

holding all my hopes,

holding all those I Love, especially ___,

and holding me this day.

Be close with your peace and hope.

Amen.
